So last night I found a half-completed statistical analysis of the gender breakdown of ships in [livejournal.com profile] dcfic_index.

I do not remember starting this, but despite the fact that I don't think that archive has been updated since about 2008, I finished the analysis anyhow.

So um. Here are some graphs! They might surprise you (but probably not. It's nice to have concrete examples, though).

I didn't think it was actually possible to be this much of a nerd. )
Kate and Betty from Bomb Girls, dancing close
I guess this is my More Joy Day post? I sort of forgot that was today whoops.

Do you want a show all about women and their relationships? How about a period piece with a budding queer romance in? A show about the 1940s that deals with the war on a more complex level than "we fought those evil Germans"? Because it turns out that's a thing you can be watching!!

Bomb Girls, Wednesday nights on Global (if you're in Canada; if you aren't check out [livejournal.com profile] bomb_girls, they can help you)

Anyway, icons! Betty, Kate, and Betty/Kate, because I am the most predictable human. Thanks to [personal profile] viorica/[livejournal.com profile] evewithanapple for the caps!

You're safe here now. I'll make sure. )
Andrea and Taylor from the 2007 St. Trinian's film.
Contain eggs & nuts. (I swear, I do make things with no nuts! Just um, not very many of them.)

Like brownies, in meringue-blob form )

They almost found the Higgs Boson!
If this had happened a few weeks ago I wouldn't even have been quite sure what that meant.

So I started out putting Wonders of the Solar System on in the background while I baked cookies
and then somehow within the last two weeks I've suddenly fallen madly in love with Prof. Brian Cox, Rock Star Particle Physicist. As far as bizarre sudden fixations go at least I'll learn interesting things from this one?

I always find crushes on real people super embarrassing so I generally don't post about them, I just shout at whichever of my friends happen to be online. But I am pretty sure they are getting sick of me being all "GOSH ISN'T SCIENCE NEAT THE UNIVERSE IS WONDERFUL" all the time.

So! Here are some things! They are not the actual sciencey things, just the things that have caused me to clutch my face and shout "HOW ARE YOU A REAL PERSON THOUGH" at the screen recently. (Not that the actual science things don't also do that. But if I started linking those I would be here far later than I want to be and also I think the BBC might object on copyright grounds?)
....Okay so maybe this isn't an actual post it's a collection of absurd things I found on youtube. )

Ten fannish things that I will always be happy with more of. (POST YOUR OWN LISTS AND I WILL TRY AND FILL THEM IF I EVER GET SPARE TIME AGAIN)

trying not to feel bad about asking for things even when they're things that don't cost money whoops )

Contains gluten; nut-free and very easily made vegan. Can be doubled in a 9x13 pan.

For when you want blueberry pie but you don’t have the time or energy. )

well I started making cookies it’s officially winter now

contains dairy (unless you use vegan/pareve caramels) and peanuts, not sure about gluten since the base is cereal. I guess that would depend on the cereal you use?

a zillion kinds of terrible for your teeth but I don't even care )

Which is here and accepting prompts for indie comics/webcomics/manga as well as superhero things! Go check this out, go go go.

But actually this is a post telling you that SOMEONE WROTE ROSEWING/BLACKBAT!

One-winged Angels

Prompt: Rose Wilson/Cass Cain, sparring-that-leads-to-sex; AU where Rose becomes Nightwing and trains with Blackbat. Cass teaches Rose how to use her body as a weapon; Rose teaches Cass other things to do with her body. Bonus points for fingerstripes.

Yes I realise there is no point in anonymous prompting if I'm going to go tell everyone as soon as my prompts get filled, shush

Dad's work gives prizes for high performance. Which are gift certificates for several malls, one of which is Yorkdale. Which is on the way up to school, and has an Apple store.

So the problem has been solved at half the cost I expected! CRISIS AVERTED.

well, fuck

Vincent Malloy walking forlornly up the stairs, with the text "Banished to the Tower of Doom"
(I guess I should crosspost this here, although I doubt anyone will notice if I go missing for a while, given how sporadically I'm on DW/LJ at the best of times)

This afternoon I noticed that my battery power was going down instead of up so i looked to see what was wrong and— my power cord had somehow been severed in half, while i sat in the library, without me noticing (???)

So um, I won’t be around much for a while for obvious reasons. Fuck.
Sigourney Weaver as Ripley, in her space suit, from the end of Alien (1979)
* got out of bed early to get stuff done
* made a chart of all the birthdays of kids at work
* wrote the introduction to my paper (due next week, half-finished)
* remembered to eat breakfast and to drink tea
* came up with a working definition for “science fiction”

everything but the last bullet point is actually useful, and yet, i feel proudest of that one

Write down twenty of your favorite pairings/threesomes/etc. THE LAST TEN SHIPS I'VE CRIED OR KEYSMASHED-OUT-LOUD ABOUT
-Put your media player on shuffle. The number of the song corresponds to the number of the pairing.
-Quote a part of the song that you think has any similarity with the couple.

Most Predictable Human )
Cartoon version of Mattell's Frankie Stein doll, the teen daughter of Frankenstein's monster
- 4 eggs

- one cup milk or your preferred milk-substitute

- 1/3 cup sugar (although they were VERY sweet, I think I’ll try 1/4 cup next time)

- 1 tbsp vanilla

- approx. 10 slices of challah, cubed

- one cup frozen raspberries

- maple syrup

Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, & vanilla. Add bread and toss until liquid is absorbed. Add berries & toss ‘til mixed.

Spread mixture evenly into greased muffin tin. Drizzle a bit of syrup on top. Bake at 375 F for 25 minutes.

Muffins can be frozen and microwaved for a minute or two, as a quick! healthy(ish)! breakfast!
