gwenfrankenstien: Betty and Kate dancing, from S1 of Bomb Girls (bomb girls)
I guess this is my More Joy Day post? I sort of forgot that was today whoops.

Do you want a show all about women and their relationships? How about a period piece with a budding queer romance in? A show about the 1940s that deals with the war on a more complex level than "we fought those evil Germans"? Because it turns out that's a thing you can be watching!!

Bomb Girls, Wednesday nights on Global (if you're in Canada; if you aren't check out [livejournal.com profile] bomb_girls, they can help you)

Anyway, icons! Betty, Kate, and Betty/Kate, because I am the most predictable human. Thanks to [personal profile] evewithanapple/[livejournal.com profile] evewithanapple for the caps!

You're safe here now. I'll make sure. )

I would post it to tumblr instead if it weren't Tumblr Blackout Day

JUST SUCCESSFULLY NAVIGATED THE RIDICULOUS TIFF TICKETS SITE

HCL/HCL2 DOUBLE FEATURE fuck yes

Tempted to try and buy myself Trigger on DVD beforehand so I can do all three at once. And cry forever.

Because it's Canada Day, and she's objectively one of the best songwriters Canada has ever produced. Canadian Folky Singer-Songwriters are a thing because of her. I'm still unspeakably angry at her songs not being included in the '60s Medley Thing at the Junos this year even though Inane and Saliva Ian and Sylvia were. She was right there presenting an award, but they couldn't do one of her songs? What was that even. (And don't get me started on people who think Universal Soldier was Donovan's song.)

A bunch of youtube videos, mostly live performances. )
My dad was a Yorkville hippie, so my benchmark for what musical knowledge is "normal" is kind of skewed? I'm still continually surprised that a lot of people don't know Buffy. So, if you're one of the people who didn't, now you do! She's still around and has been around forever, so there's a tremendous back catalogue everyone should check out. I just picked out a few gems that a) I like and b) I could find easily on youtube, but if I had more time I could be here posting her songs all day.

The Twitch City episode Planet of the Cats is a dream sequence dropped into the middle of the second season, an AU in which the main characters' pet cat has taken over the world. Mostly what this means is a surreal action movie parody, but it also means Don McKellar in a kitty collar.

The relationship I have with you is what most people have with their cats. )

I made some handy graphs, because they help me process the numbers, and I'm sure there are other people whose eyes glaze over at the raw data so I'm sharing.

This is what the new parliament will look like:
Largish graph )
And this is what it would look like if we had proportional representation:
Another largish graph )
That's.... A pretty big difference there!

I made 30 icons out of the various Trigger promo images, because of course I did. God, this film is just fucking gorgeous.

[01-05] Vic/Kat
[06-16] Kat (Molly Parker)
[17-29] Vic (Tracy Wright)
+ one of Don and Tracy being adorable on-set

The Shut Ups were when we were pure. )
...Okay, I know I get fannish about some pretty obscure things, but a film that literally nobody outside of Toronto has seen is a little much even for me. Oops?

...This was supposed to be an art post, but I seem to have inadvertently buried my "to-scan" pile. So um, have some icons?

[01-09] Kate Beaton comics
[10-20] Tim Burton's Vincent
[22-26] Hot Fuzz slashfic tweets

Here in Canada, we really really like Margaret Atwood. Like, really. And, based on her actual writing, that's fair! Her books say some very interesting and important things!

But then she speaks, and, well.

I mean, I've been annoyed at Atwood since the time she decided she didn't write sci-fi, because her book had no space ships in and therefore it was "literature." But this-! Here are the things I have learned from this interview:

- Women have to pick up after our husbands because they're hunters and we're gatherers, so they can't see socks on the floor!

- The women in Handmaid's Tale aren't oppressed!

- Science doesn't kill rainforests, people do!

- People go to Toronto to cuddle bears because of Winnie the Pooh!

(This is the last day I have free until after Fan Expo. So I need to get this stuff out before I forget about it in the haze of working-at-the-convention.)

Cut for blather. )
