family bullshit

We have my grandmother for the next two weeks. My mom, being, well, herself, is incapable of using a soft tone of voice around my grandmother. And as a result my grandmother is terrified of mom, thinks she doesn't love her or want her here. And mom refuse to listen when people tell her-- and ALL OF US have told her-- what the problem is. She CANNOT admit that she has done anything wrong or that she needs to change. (Because apparently what works on kids at work should work on everybody>/i>.) It's first thing in the morning on day 2 of 2 weeks and I already cannot do this any more.

She spent the whole day yesterday crying because my uncle (not actually my uncle, my grandmother's first cousin, they are weirdly codependent) was at his own house getting ready for the trip we're taking Monday. Every time someone leaves she's afraid they've tricked her and they aren't coming back. (Which is in no small part because my mom's brother actually did kick her out a few years ago, because he couldn't deal with both her and her codependent cousinbrother hanging around his house. And also because my mom's brother is an asshole. There is a reason I no longer call him my uncle.)

We-- Myself, mom, grandmother, & cousinuncle-- are renting a cottage next week, Monday to Friday. So I'll be trapped with them, without even the internet as a refuge. (At least the cottage is in wine country.) If anything really important happens next week, I will have my phone, I'm @mrsfrankenstien on twitter.

....This was supposed to be primarily a post about how excited I am for my birthday party this afternoon, but I'm tired and grouchy and I wrote this instead. Oops?
