So apparently letting her think her adoptive mother is dead is less difficult to deal with than the "burden" of being in on the secret and having access to Oracle's new headquarters. Yeah. Yeah.
I mean, the storyline itself is pretty out of character for Babs-- I do not for one second believe that Barbara "I'm Oracle. I help people" Gordon would choose not to help her friends so she could hide in virtual reality because Batman told her to reinvent the internet.
I don't know. I wanted to love this book, but the relaunch has been a bit off all year. I don't know what to do. I don't want to drop the book. Birds of Prey is the comic that got me buying comics regularly. In theory, Barbara Gordon is one of my absolute favourite characters. Renee Montoya is set to show up soon and I don't want to miss out on that.
But a comic I love shouldn't hurt me like this, I'm really really upset right now. I want to send a letter but I can never make my thoughts articulate enough.

I admit I had pretty high expectations for this book, but that's because the previous run was so good that I know this book can be a lot better than it is right now.

I totally agree -- my expectations have been pretty high, but that's because the first run was really good (although tbh, I've felt Simone's BoP stuff was up and down for me -- then again, I hate Benes art to the point of where it distracts me from the actual story. Like, I picked up a few trades a few years ago that were mostly Benes stuff and I had trouble getting through it.
And for me, I think... the relaunch hasn't been --- to use a cliche term, I guess --- running on all cylinders? There has definitely been something missing. It's kind of like: fight, fight, fight!~ and then come together to chat and the chat stuff is usually where I feel like there's something missing. (Though the first issue, when they first got back together was good on the chat stuff)
They need to have a good, steady artist on this STAT.

That's basically the same thing Sonia and I were saying over on the LJ version of this post, and I've heard it from other people as well, so. The plot stuff has been good, the interpersonal stuff not so much. And the interpersonal stuff is why this is my favourite team, if I just wanted a comic full of action scenes and fighting I'd read JLA or something.

I can't help but think that, even if Cass couldn't be used, her exclusion could be handled better than not letting her know Barbara is alive because it's just easier that way.
Couldn't they just say she's unavailable right now and she'll be told as soon as possible?
