gwenfrankenstien: icon by me, art by Art Balthazar (even robins)

This Is Not A 30 Days Of Meme Post

Today's question was supposed to be "favourite romance" and I still have no idea how I plan on answering that.

HOWEVER, I have just had an Idea that needs to get spilled out here in hope that someone who can write takes a shine to it.

So I've watched through Life on Mars and just started Ashes to Ashes, at [livejournal.com profile] cws_eat_chs's continued insistance. Also I've been thinking about Robins a lot (to be fair, I do that pretty much always). And uh. It just hit me how much I actually need the story where when Steph is presumed-dead post-War Games she wakes up in 1986 or so and hangs out with Jason. And Batman is all disapproving of her before she was born in her own dream, how is that even fair? But Jason is a lot more fun than Tim, even if she hates herself for thinking it. Especially given how many times she's had to stop Robin from using lethal force, which is not something she will ever get used to.

And in the dreamworld Oracle is Batgirl, and okay, that will never not be weird. But it's one of the things she tries not to think about too much. (Along with that Robin costume in the glass box back home, which she never really looked at closely when she was there but she's pretty sure it's Jason's. But the boy whose costume that was can't have died more than five years ago, and this is definitely the mid-eighties... Like I said, she tries not to think about it.)

PLEASE, INTERNET, MAKE THIS A THING THAT EXISTS. I WILL GIVE YOU MY LEFT ARM. Or, well, someone's arm, anyhow.

I think sending Steph back to the 80's to hang out with Jason even though the timeline is a truly insane trainwreck when you put it that way is entirely in keeping with A2A canon on several levels (none of which I will detail here, but--really, yes).

(I am using this icon in part because I would love for Steph to take one look at slightly post-Crisis-ish Bruce's outfit and decide to call him "Batman," with quotes. Just once. I would settle for "Nice Batman costume.")

Upon further reflection, the longer I try to put this all together the less sense it makes in my head, but once you hit the end of A2A s1 I will expound on how that's all just hunky-dory in detail. Let me know.

(P. S. I keep working my way through Gene's infinite nickname collection, but I find the parts where he refers to Sam as the Boy Wonder to be really endearing and yet horrifying, what with the era and the "Oh, Gene, you're really calling him Burt Ward, aren't you?" factor.)

I'm pretty sure even now most times non-geeks talk about Robin they mean Burt Ward, but yeah, especially horrifying in this instance!
Deeply true. I'd despair of them if they didn't get along so well.
