It is probably no secret to anyone that I love AUs! I love that in comics, even the weird, cracked-out AU scenarious are canon more often than not. Just last week I bought a comic where Deadshot is the archetypical Stranger Who Rides Into Town, and it was easily my favourite book that week. Not that Secret Six is ever not my favourite book on the week it comes out, but you get the picture. I also love that other DC Western AU, Justice Riders, featuring Sheriff Diana Prince and Steampunky Inventor Ted Kord, among others, and ends with Dime Novelist Clark Kent.
Talking of pulps, I also love Thrillkiller, which is the pulpiest ever, complete with evil lesbians. Also pulp/dime novel-y is The Doom That Came To Gotham, which is a Lovecraft AU featuring Batman and three Robins, where the Penguin turns into a penguin. So, y'know, I'm sort of honour-bound to like that one. Also honour-bound to like Batman: Reign of Terror because, I love Batman and I love the Reign of Terror. No-brainer there, really.
I'm probably in the minority that didn't love Gotham By Gaslight at first, but after the Countdown one-shot exploring that universe more thoroughly, well. If it weren't for that there would be no Steam DCU, and we all know how much energy I have expended on that monster of a thing. I've also drawn World Without Young Justice Steph recently, so that's another one for the list.
I love all the really cheesy Elseworlds from when they were sort of running out of ideas and cranking them out, so you got things like Leatherwing the Pirate. Pirate!Alfred is actually one of the most amazing things I have ever seen.
But my absolute favourite story is one that basically nobody has ever read. It was in the Lost Elseworlds Special which was somehow in an Elseworlds torrent I downloaded years ago. It's called Rockumentary and is, of course, the Rock Star AU. Everything about it is comedy gold. Superman, Green Lantern, the Flash, and Aquaman are the Beatles! Batman is Morrissey! Harley and Ivy are the Indigo Girls! The Titans are one of those pop groups that rotates out members when they get too old to be cute and wholesome! Lex Luthor is the record producer/evil mastermind! It is a work of genius, truly.
