gwenfrankenstien: icon by me, art by Art Balthazar (even robins)
So there's another upcoming epic! Game changing! Crossover! Event! from which the DC Universe will Never Be The Same, because nobody at DC actually knows what the word "Final" means. People on tumblr this morning were posting lists of "Changes to the DCU that could happen because of Flashpoint that I would LIKE to see."

So, in the spirit of that, DC-reading (and former-DC-reading) flist, let's pretend we're in charge of what gets published!

Rules: No more than ten books. No re-using the same creator for more than two books. Currently-alive creators only, although they don’t have to be working at DC. Up to half your books can have back-up features.
My list behind the cut )

Admittedly by "stuff" I here mean "ponies." Various Titans (& Dairine Callahan) in pony form, to be precise. Yep. This is my life now.

Terra, Kory, Rose, Tim, Kid Devil, Dari )
gwenfrankenstien: Bette and Rose from the Wolf House series (bette and rose)
Everybody's new favourite game on tumblr: fannish A Softer World remixes. I... Have read through the entire archive and came out with nearly forty of them? This is my life now, I guess. Credit for the text and the original format goes to E. Horne and J. Comeau. This post is really not dial-up safe.

I am a batshit genius scientist prophet goddess and I will be free. )

We did our big family Christmas dinner on Christmas Eve this year, which means that I spent today alternately figuring out how to draw on a tablet (I HAVE A TABLET NOW THIS IS EXCITING) and reading through the Yuletide archive. Because god knows I have more than enough extremely tiny fandoms.
Fandoms from A-F + a couple crossovers )

So uh today I was watching the Japanese Grand Prix and I realised that the world absolutely needs a DC figure skating AU. So then this happened.
Kara, Babs, Dinah, Cass, Dick, Tim and Steph, Dick and Donna. Plus babble. )
gwenfrankenstien: icon by me, art by Art Balthazar (even robins)
So um I kinda made fifty icons from the latest issue of Tiny Titans?
It is the Tiny Adorable Batkids issue, of course I did.

[01-07] Batgirls
[08-13] Girl Robins
[14-23] Dick
[24-29] Jason Toddler
[30-37] Tim and Jay
[38-47] Misc. Robins
[48-50] Just Plain Misc.
I can't see a thing in this bucket. )

OKAY OKAY OKAY.

If you are or ever were a Stephanie Brown fan, and you got pissed off by the bullshit way she was treated by both by Batman in-story and by DC as a company...

You NEED "Batgirl: Bruce Wayne: The Road Home" in your life RIGHT NOW.

I just. It is so fucking perfect, I was shaking and crying.*

Seriously. If you are not in a position to go buy any comics right now, shoot me a message and I'll scan it tomorrow. I'm anti-sharing-full-comics-online in general (working at a comic shop will do that to you) but for this gloriousness I'm making an exception. (Besides, y'all are my friends, and I lend comics to my non-internet friends all the time.)

* To be fair, I'm having a weird brain-day and I've been moved to tears by at at least four different things today.

There's still another one coming after this, too. When I get started making icons I find it very hard to stop.

[01-03] Barda Free
[04-06] Guy Gardner/Tora Olafsdotter
[07-17] Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle)
[18-27] Misc. JLI/Blue Beetle
[28-36] Cassie Sandsmark (Wonder Girl)
[37-42] Koriand'r (Starfire)
[43-46] Rose Wilson (Ravager)
[47-49] Tara Markov (Terra)
[50-62] Misc. Titans/Young Justice

You've got a forehead full of justice? What does that even mean? )
gwenfrankenstien: Cartoon version of Mattell's Frankie Stein doll, the teen daughter of Frankenstein's monster (Default)
I just realised I only ever did 29 days, so. I should probably finish that.

Thing You Would Undo, If You Could
I'm not sure if this counts as just one thing. )

Now, art! I had barely scanned anything this summer until now, so there is... Kind of a lot. There is one original piece (a demonic Siren-type-thing) but the rest is DC. Included are most of Young Justice (with new additions to the team); Misfit; various Batgirls; Jeannette and Black Alice; and several Girl Wonders, one canon and one very AU. (I told you there was kind of a lot.)
Obviously, very image-heavy. )

Today's question is Favourite Power, which I don't think I actually have an answer to because most of my favourite characters don't have them. I'm a Batfamily fan! My favourite will basically always be the Badass Normal!

So no real meme answer today. But before I go-- I made a thing! A Steph tribute vid to "Joyful Girl" by Ani Difranco, because could there be a more perfect Steph song? I don't think so. Watch it here on YouTube or embedded, behind the cut. (Fair warning: There are some War Games panels in this, if you (reasonably!) want to avoid thinking about that story.)

She does it for the joy it brings. )

Nothing says "More Joy" like "Birds of Prey Relaunch," but that was yesterday. So I think it is time to talk about why BoP is the greatest! And by "talk about" I mean "post a gazillion pictures of." Not even remotely dial-up friendly.)

It's Black Canary putting her boot in bad guys' faces and the Huntress taking no *&^% from anyone and Oracle being smarter than anyone else in Gotham. )

HERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT HAVE MADE ME UNREASONABLY HAPPY LATELY.

- Gail Simone Returns to Birds Of Prey :DDDDD MY GIRLS ARE BAAACK FUCK YES. MY GLEE CANNOT BE TEXTUALLY RENDERED.

- Justice League International Returns, and also Giffen & De Matteis are writing Booster Gold. Apparently 2010 is the Year of DC Proving They Really Do Love Me? Seriously, next we'll hear they've got PAD back and are rebooting Young Justice

- Last night I got to watch NEW Kids In The Hall. Inept cops, dudes playing ladies, hosers, inappropriate jokes that I would find offensive if anybody else did them... Business as usual! God bless the CBC.

- THIS PICTURE. AHHHHH YOU GUYS SHE HAS A RING.

- Rereading Frankenstein for Humanities. SECRET: I kind of love this book a lot! I know, you are all shocked.

- Scott Westerfield's Leviathan. Steampunk WWI! Obnoxious Hapsburg boy (& his mecha) meets plucky Scottish girl-disguised-as-boy (& her flying whale)! NORA FUCKING BARLOW! Seriously, how is this book so awesome? (I am only 3/4 of the way through, no major spoilers please!)

- OPI has made a line of Tim Burton's Alice inspired nail polish! I mean, I probably can't buy any, OPI is crazy expensive and I just got two new colours for Christmas, but the fact that it even exists is pretty awesome.

So [livejournal.com profile] yuletart was amazing, I'm glad I convinced myself to sign up. Definitely gonna do it again next year.

[livejournal.com profile] 22by7 drew me Jealousy, which is Cass and Selina being awesome while an adorable kitty attempts to steal the scene. It is GORGEOUS and it is FOR ME and gosh, I love the internet sometimes.

My recipient, [livejournal.com profile] derawr requested Runaways and Secret Six, and crossovers are my favourite, so I couldn't resist:

Molly's New Friend: Runaways/Secret Six, gen )

ALSO, I saw Sherlock Holmes on Monday, oh my god, how did that manage to be nearly everything I could ever want in a Holmes movie? Everybody in it is so awesome, seriously, if you saw the trailer and were like "What is this, this is an action movie, why is Adler walking around in her underwear, what the hell, why is there so much fighting and so little mystery-solving?!" all I can say is that film trailers are about as useful as comic book covers.

I am trying to think of an effective segue into posting art of Irene Adler and Mary Morstan, but I can't, so... Here are some pictures of ladies in waistcoats! )

I think, when I am less tired, I'm going to draw Bella eating and Bella with an animal for the picspam-meme. But not now. Now I am going to talk about happy things!

1. Post about something that made you happy today, even if it's just a small thing.
2. Do this every day for eight days without fail.

SECRET SIX. Okay, everybody who cares has probably read this already, but I just got this week's comics, so. My boss: "Do you always giggle when you read your comics? ...Oh, it's Secret Six." It is absolutely my favourite thing DC is publishing right now, and that includes Tiny Titans. Ragdoll is never not funny. And Scandal Savage made # 7 on my top 10 female comics characters ever, but this issue made me want to bump her up a place or two. (Also it made me seriously consider cosplaying as her? Eugh, but her costume would take, like, effort and stuff.)

Basically what I want to say is, everybody should be reading Secret Six. It's horrible and depraved and still has a sense of humour. I'm particularly fond of the issue where they hijack an ice-cream truck and drive it to Vegas. And the villain reveal at the end of the first ongoing arc. And the Tiny Titans parody. And, okay, everything. If you like hilarious comics about terrible people doing terrible things, you should definitely be buying this book.

Since it seems to be the thing that everyone is talking about: Steph's new costume.

Now, I like this costume! I had no idea people didn't like Steph's utility garter, it's one of my favourite costume elements. It's unique and practical. The low-slung belt isn't particularly practical, but it's cool enough that I'll let that go. And it looks like her boots have steel toes! I've been saying Steph should have steel-toed boots for years, I think they'd be good for her.

I love the colour scheme. It reminds me of Spoiler, obviously, but also of some of Huntress' better costumes. And, of course, the cut is very similar to Barbara's classic Batgirl costume. I would have included more of Cass' design elements, though. Maybe the hollow logo.

I have to say, I was hoping for something more reminiscent of Steph's Robin costume, though. Kind of an updated Betty Kane Bat-Girl, in eggplant of course. I like the skirt-over-tights look.

...Okay, I have to go trek up to school now. And this is as long as I can talk about Steph-as-Batgirl without getting into incoherent capslock with lots of exclamation marks. Steph! In her own title! As a legitimate member of the Batfamily! (I'm still a little worried, to be honest. We all know what happened last time Steph got a promotion.)

AKA Steampunk Birds of Prey. I miss that comic so fucking much, you don't even. It was the first comic I ever bought new.
