I had been thinking a lot about this one tumblr post that's like... making fun of people for saying 'oh if this movie came out today people would romanticise Jareth' because according to the tumblr post that's the whole point of his character and... wow do I ever disagree! I too used to make 'Sarah's an idiot for giving up on the chance to have David Bowie be in love with you' jokes when I was Sarah's age and I'm quietly horrified by that now. He's a powerful, predatory adult and Sarah is an incredible heroine for being able to see through his manipulation by the end. I knew I wanted a song with a whimsical hippie feel but with that undercurrent of strength and bitterness, so early Joni seemed the obvious place to go.

In undergrad I took a course on vampire movies, for which I wrote a paper on the ways the film shows Ellen and Orlok's mirroring/psychic connection. I always say that my approach to vidding is the same as my approach to writing essays, but that's never been so literally true before!

quizkwatsh and I actually matched on a couple fandoms but come on, there's no way I wasn't gonna vid the movie about the selkie girl who has my legal name and looks exactly like me as a kid. This one was a great one to vid because a non-verbal main character limits the amount of talky-face shots-- can't wait to vid Shape of Water for the same reason.
