So like, today was kind of MADE OF AWESOME, COVERED IN AWESOME SAUCE?

So I met up with [livejournal.com profile] chavamara this afternoon (she was kind of half-assed-ly cosplaying Death, she had the black and the Ankh down but hadn't even bothered with makeup, & I was dresses as Misfit, because, MISFIT). First I dropped my jacket off at my store's booth, because there's no way I was carrying it around all day, carrying my knapsack was bad enough. And then a hand puppet asked if she could get a picture with me, which was kind of surreal, but in an awesome way. (Ed & Red have a huge presence at every Toronto con, and they have a new show this summer, so I assume this was related.)

And then we went and talked to Jewel Staite, who is a really nice person and also, gorgeous. All the pictures she had with her were, of course, more recent, Firefly and whatever Stargate it is she was on and so on. But what I'm interested in is, uh, a show she did when she was about twelve, so I brought with me a printout of the Catalina portion of

So I met up with <user name=chavamara site=livejournal.com> this afternoon (she was kind of half-assed-ly cosplaying Death, she had the black and the Ankh down but hadn't even bothered with makeup, & I was dresses as Misfit, because, MISFIT).

But what I'm interested in is, uh, a show she did when she was about twelve, so I brought with me a printout of the Catalina portion of <a href="http://pics.livejournal.com/mrsfrankenstien/pic/000dessy/g44"this drawing"</a> for her to sign. Which, oh my god you guys, I talked to JEWEL STAITE about SPACE CASES. I had such a ridiculous crush on her when I was like eight! CATALINA. I MET CATALINA. :DDDDDDDDDDDDD

And then we went to find Gail Simone. She was not at her booth, because she was signing at the Wizard <strike>booth</strike> tiny table hidden behind the Space (Canadian version of SyFy, basically) booth. Her husband was there, and he was like "OMG MISFIT. HAVE YOU TALKED TO GAIL YET?!" which I got a lot this weekend, Ed the Sock (well, Steve Kerzner) said the same thing. SO we hunted around 'til we actually found the hidden Wizard booth, and I talked to Gail, and got stuff signed, and all that. And, this is probably not a surprise to anyone, but she is such a nice person, so easy to talk to (and I get pretty flustered talking to people I admire). And she LOVED my costume, we talked about Misfit a lot, because maaaan I fucking love that ridiculous obnoxious girl SO MUCH, I was like "When she first showed up, it was like, OH MAN THAT IS ME! Here is an annoying teenager who gets superpowers and uses them to bug Oracle!" and she was like "Yeah, I wrote her to be annoying, a lot of people don't get that so they hate the character! They just don't like being annoyed, I guess!" And I told her how BoP was the first comic I bought new because I couldn't wait for trades to see what happened next, and how excited I was that the series is coming back.

AND I gave her one of a bracelet (for those who don't know me IRL: I decoupage wooden bangles with cut-up comics, books I have doubles of and/or things I pick out of dollar bins. One of a kind wearable superhero shit! Awesome.) of Ragdoll, which she ALSO LOVED, which was great!! I am still not used to other people liking things I do, because I have this thing where if I can do it I assume it can't be all that great. (Thanks, wacky brain chemistry!) And I said I was going to start selling them online in the summer. I've been thinking of opening an Etsy store as soon as I get a working credit card again, I guess now that I've told people, I'm bound to that.

Then we hung around Artist's Alley & I bought a print of Oogie Boogie, number 9 of 500. The artist was a PRETTY COOL DUDE. I am usually crazy judgemental of <strike>people who call themselves</strike> Nightmare fans, but this guy genuinely seemed to love the movie as much as I do. Which is rare, because I am crazy-obsessive about it! Erin bought a print of Jack and Zero, and the guy told us a really touching story about how he drew it after his dog died. And then he said he was working on a painting of the Mayor next, and I said "I'm only an elected official here! I can't make <i>decisions</i> by myself!" which is pretty much my favourite line in the movie, and he was like ":D I GOT GLENN SHADIX TO SAY THAT LINE FOR ME AT A CON ONCE!" and we had a Geek Bonding Moment.

AND THEN I BOUGHT STUFF. LOTS OF STUFF. The comic where (pre-crisis) Jason is Robin for the first time! Two Young Justice issues I was missing! A keychain of Molly from Runaways! A Doctor Finkelstein figure to go with the Igor I've had for years! AWESOME.

AND THEN I BOUGHT STUFF. GREAT STUFF. The comic where (pre-Crisis) Jason is Robin for the first time! Two issues of Young Justice that I didn't have! The Nightmare Before Christmas Dr. Finklestien action figure (I've had an Igor without a Doctor for <i>years.</i>)!

And then on our way out we ran into Gail & her husband again, and she thanked me for the bracelet and got me to write down my LJ/twitter so she can tell people about it! SO YEAH, THAT HAPPENED. TODAY WAS OFFICIALLY AWESOME.

ETA: <a href="http://twitter.com/GailSimone/status/11225100305">AND ALSO THIS HAPPENED.</a> Gail Simone on Twitter: "LOVE Toronto! This adorable girl in an adorable MISFIT costume made me the most awesome Ragdoll bracelet...I will wear it 'til I die!" I AM MAKING THIS FACE RIGHT NOW: :DDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
